Driven by the desire to obtain the inheritance, the daughters-in-law decided to get rid of their blind mother-in-law and took her deep into a remote forest, hoping that no one would find her there. They were certain the woman would not understand what was happening, since she had been blind from birth. But they forgot one thing — over the years of darkness, her hearing and intuition had become sharply heightened.
After her husband’s death, all the property passed to her: the house, the bank accounts, the land. And from that very moment, the daughters-in-law’s attitude became cold and false.
That day, they told the old woman they were taking her for a walk so she could get some fresh air and distract herself. The mother-in-law silently got into the car, but her heart tightened with anxiety. The road was far too long, and there was not a single familiar sound around her.
When the car stopped abruptly, she became alert. The passenger door opened, and she was roughly pulled outside. Beneath her feet she felt leaves and branches.
— We’re here. Stay here. No one will find you anyway, the daughters-in-law whispered with cold cruelty.
The door slammed shut. The engine roared. The car drove away.
The old woman stood alone in the middle of the night forest. The wind cut through her to the bone, and her bare feet went numb from the cold. Strange sounds surrounded her — the cracking of branches, rustling noises. Then she heard a howl. First somewhere far away. Then closer. Even closer.
Her heart was pounding so loudly that it seemed the entire forest could hear it.
Footsteps became distinct. Very close. She felt a warm, damp breath on her cheek. She understood — they were wolves, and they were already there. The old woman silently said goodbye to her life and began to pray softly, waiting for the end.
But at that very moment, the wolves did something that left the woman in horror 😢😨
Instead of a bite, she felt something warm press against her side. Then another. The wolves surrounded her and lay close beside her, as if protecting her from the wind. Their thick fur warmed her body, and their heavy breathing no longer seemed frightening. All night long, they did not leave her.
In the morning, the old woman woke up feeling the warmth of a ray of sunlight. The forest was quiet. The wolves were gone. She carefully got to her feet, found the trunk of a tree, and slowly moved forward, holding on to the bark and branches. She walked for a long time, stumbling and falling, but she did not stop. By evening, she felt smooth asphalt beneath her feet. Cars rushed past, and at last someone noticed the elderly woman in a thin dress standing in the middle of the road.
People stopped and saved her.
And those who had left her to die in the forest for the sake of an inheritance could never have imagined that, that night, wild animals would prove more humane than they were.
