A man found an old, worn-out armchair at a dump and brought it home. When he opened the chair and saw what was inside, everyone was shocked.
The old man always had one habit — every morning he walked past the garbage containers. He used to say that this was how “the day starts well.” But in reality, he also liked to check whether someone had thrown away something useful.
Over the years he had found old lamps, chairs, and even small cabinets there, which he later repaired with his own hands.
That day he was walking his usual route when he noticed an old, worn-out armchair near the large garbage bins. It was quite heavy and dusty, the fabric was torn in places, but the frame seemed sturdy.
He came closer, walked around it several times, pressed his hand on the wood, and thought:
— I’ll fix it up a little — and it will serve again.
Since the chair was quite heavy, he had to drag and slowly roll it all the way home. On the way, several neighbors saw him and asked in surprise:
— Why do you need that? Why are you dragging such an old thing?
He replied with a smile:
— Something old can always become new again.
At home, his wife first looked at the man with dissatisfaction.
— Did you bring something from the trash again? — she said.
But the man had already started working. He turned the chair upside down, took some tools, and began to dismantle the wooden part of the seat to see what condition it was in inside.
At one moment he lifted the wooden seat with a screwdriver…
and what he saw inside shocked both of them at the same time.
His eyes widened, and his breath seemed to stop.
Inside the chair, in a hidden wooden compartment, thick bundles of money were carefully stacked. They lay on top of each other and side by side. Green, red, and various colored banknotes, tightly wrapped with rubber bands.
The man stared for several seconds, unable to believe his eyes.
— Come here, look… — he whispered to his wife.
His wife came closer, looked inside, and immediately covered her mouth with her hand.
The secret compartment of the chair was filled with a huge amount of money. Dozens of bundles were lying there — so many that the entire wooden space was completely packed with them. It seemed as if someone had been storing money there for years without telling anyone about it.
For several minutes, the room was completely silent.
The old, worn-out chair that someone had simply thrown away… turned out to be hiding a small fortune inside. And the elderly couple still could not believe that all of this was now in their home.
There was so much money that they could live out the rest of their lives without doing anything — simply enjoying this unexpected discovery.
