LIFE STORIES

😦 “Officer, can you buy my dog?” a little girl asked me, and the reason she was selling her dog deeply moved me.

" Monsieur le policier, vous pouvez acheter mon chien ? " m'a demandé une petite fille et la raison pour laquelle elle vendait son chien m’a profondément bouleversé

That day, it was very cold. The streets were icy and the shops were closed. Nobody was on the streets. From afar, I noticed a little girl with a dog.

I looked around, but saw no adult near her. I have patrolled this neighborhood for over ten years, and I know well that this place is not dangerous at all.

Still, I approached to understand why she was alone on the street in such weather.

I will never forget the expression on her face. It will remain engraved in my memory. Her eyes were full of despair.

“Are you alone? Where are your parents?” I asked. She didn’t answer and lowered her gaze.

I noticed a small sign hanging from the dog’s neck with a price.

“You’re selling your dog, little one?”

“Yes, sir, could you please buy my dad’s dog?”

“Why are you selling him?” I asked. What she replied moved me deeply.

" Monsieur le policier, vous pouvez acheter mon chien ? " m'a demandé une petite fille et la raison pour laquelle elle vendait son chien m’a profondément bouleversé

The little girl, with her eyes downcast, finally whispered: “We have no food at home anymore, sir. Dad can’t find work, and Mom is sick… The dog helps us, but we don’t have enough to eat. So I have to sell my dog so we can buy food.”

“Officer, can you buy my dog?” a little girl asked me, and the reason she was selling her dog deeply moved me.

Shocked and touched by her words, I couldn’t remain indifferent.

I reached out my hand and said gently, “Don’t worry, I will help you. You are not alone.”

I took out my phone and contacted social services, explaining the situation.

A few hours later, social services arrived to provide immediate support to the family, and the little girl found comfort.

The next day, volunteers brought supplies and medicine for her mother, and the dog, saved from being sold, returned to its family.
