A strange call came into 911. It was a 5-year-old girl named Mia. The girl looked scared and whispered:
“Please come. Someone is whispering under my bed. I hear their voices, I’m so scared…” – her voice trembled.
“Where are your parents, Mia?”
“They don’t believe me… they say I’m imagining everything… but I hear it. Now… I hear it again…”
The operator had worked in the emergency service for 12 years, but this call made her nervous. The girl wasn’t lying and wasn’t joking.
“We’re sending the police now. Stay on the line, okay?”
Ten minutes later, on the outskirts of town, officers were standing outside the house. The startled parents opened the door.
“What happened? Did Mia come up with something again?” the father asked, looking at his wife.
“We’ll check,” the sergeant said. “Can we go into the room?”
Mia was sitting in the corner of the room, holding Datunya tightly. Her eyes were filled with tears. She silently pointed to the small bed, which was covered with a pink blanket.
“Voices from over there…” she whispered.
One of the officers knelt down and looked under the bed. It was empty—dust, a few fallen toys, nothing suspicious.
“There’s nothing here,” he stood up. “It seems someone has an overactive imagination. Parents will be notified of the false alarm…”
“Wait,” the second officer said suddenly sharply. He held up a hand. “Shh… silence. No one is speaking.”
A deathly silence fell in the room. Even the parents in the hallway froze. Half a minute passed… a minute… and then everyone heard the voice that little Mia was talking about. When they looked under the bed again, they saw something terrible 😨😱

And then… again. A soft, barely audible whisper. But it wasn’t a sound. It was a sound… like a scrape of metal, muffled by the ground.
As if someone… was digging.
The officer got down on the floor and began to knock on the floorboards. The sound was muffled in the corner. The police quickly removed a small section of the parquet floor – and under it they found a thin layer of earth.
They took a shovel from the garage and started digging… and after a few centimeters they came across a metal cover. Underneath – a tunnel.
They called for help. Two hours later, it was revealed: a network of tunnels under the house and adjacent rooms.
Inside were three escapees — former prisoners who had been hiding for months, preparing to escape abroad and making their way under the city.
Using specialized equipment, they worked at night, trying to avoid any noise — but little Mia still heard their voices.
Thanks to the girl’s cries, they were caught. Mia has been sleeping peacefully ever since.
