Almost a lifetime… For many, this seems unrealistic, while others live their entire lives with one person. But even after so much time, many understand that the wrong person was nearby.
In honor of the wedding anniversary, the children of this elderly couple organized a small celebration for their parents.
They gathered friends and relatives, rented a cozy area. Everyone laughed, danced, raised toasts and enjoyed this special day.
After several congratulations and glasses of wine, the man stood up, looked at his wife and invited her to tango.
The same melody began to play, to which they once, in their distant youth, danced their first wedding dance.
They moved slowly but confidently, as if time had gone back. The guests admired them, someone even wiped away tears of affection.

But when the music ended, the husband suddenly took a step back and turned to his wife:
“Forgive me, but I never loved you. Back then, in my youth, my parents forced me to marry you… But I could never love you. But now I want to live the rest of my life peacefully and enjoy it. The children are already adults, they no longer need me as a husband for their mother.”

– You know, I knew all this. From the very beginning. But I accepted you as you are, because then I had a choice: either I would become a victim of circumstances, or I would turn my life into a story of strength. I chose the latter.
She paused, and the guests froze, listening to every word.
– Do you think that I lived these 50 years for you? You are wrong. I lived for our children, for my family, for myself. And during this time I learned to be happy even with a person who did not love me. Because I loved myself – and that was enough for the house to be full of warmth and comfort.
The woman turned to the guests, her voice grew stronger:
– But if today you decided to free yourself, know that I am free too. I am no longer obliged to remain silent, I am not obliged to endure and I am not obliged to share the remaining years with you. I will live them for myself. And, unlike you, I know what it means to truly love and be loved – because no one can take my love away from me.
A sigh was heard in the hall, as if hundreds of people simultaneously took a deep breath. The husband looked down, his face distorted with bitterness. He realized that he wanted to humiliate her, but in the end he humiliated himself.
The wife smiled calmly, raised her glass and said:
– And now, my friends, let’s dance. Life goes on.
