On my wedding day, my ex-wife showed up pregnant to congratulate us. My new wife asked only one question, and what my ex then revealed plunged me into deep despair…

LIFE STORIES

Vân’s sudden outburst drew the attention of the entire room. Whispers spread quickly, but no one understood what was about to happen.

At university, I was the handsome and intelligent type admired by many female students. But I didn’t fall in love with anyone. My family was poor; I had to work part-time every day just to pay for my tuition and had no time for romance.

Among the girls who admired me was my classmate Vân. To win my heart, she often bought me food, clothes, and even paid my tuition fees.

I didn’t feel anything real for her, but since her family was financially supporting my education, I reluctantly agreed to be with her.

After graduation, because I wanted to stay in the city, I agreed to marry Vân so that her parents could help me find a job. But once we lived together, I realized that I didn’t love her at all and even felt disgusted by physical intimacy with her.

We were married for three years and had no children. She constantly urged me to get examined, but I insisted I was completely healthy and refused. By then, my career was stable, and I was no longer dependent on her family. That was exactly when I decided to end this dull marriage and pursue my “true love.”

My coldness and indifference eventually drove her away. She agreed to sign the divorce papers and let me go. After that, I started dating a beautiful business partner I had secretly admired for a long time. After more than a year, we decided to get married. I didn’t send my ex-wife an invitation, yet somehow she showed up anyway—completely shameless.

The most unexpected part was that she appeared with a pregnant belly to congratulate us. Her presence caused a stir and immediately drew everyone’s attention. Whispers filled the room; no one knew what was about to happen.

As Vân approached us, she said:

“If I could turn back time, I would never have wasted my youth on a man who didn’t love me and only used my money. My biggest regret was marrying you.”

As she turned to leave, the bride, visibly affected, asked:
“Whose child is it?”

That question shocked me. My ex-wife and I had been divorced for over a year, so the baby clearly couldn’t be mine. But… why had she never gotten pregnant during our three years of marriage? Did that mean I was infertile?

Vân didn’t make us wait long. She turned back and said:

“For three years, your husband and I couldn’t have children. I often asked him to get examined, but he always blamed me. And every time I got tested, everything was perfectly fine. After the divorce, I fell in love with another man. And on the very first night with him, I became pregnant.”

Her words shocked the bride so much she dropped her bouquet. I myself was completely stunned and didn’t know what to do.

After Vân left, I tried to calm my girlfriend and asked her to continue the ceremony. But she refused and said she wanted to cancel the wedding and have me take a fertility test before deciding whether to marry me. She said:

“My brother and his wife were married for nine years and had no children. They spent a fortune on treatments but ended up divorcing anyway. I don’t want to repeat that mistake.

A woman’s value decreases with every failed marriage; I don’t want my first wedding to be with a man who might not be able to have children.”

I had no right to blame either my ex-wife or my girlfriend.

My downfall is the result of my own scheming and selfishness. I sowed bitterness, and now I’m reaping it. If I had treated my ex-wife well, I wouldn’t be facing such a miserable ending today.
