The funeral was oppressively quiet. The White Hall was filled with relatives, loved ones and friends who came to say goodbye to the young girl. She passed away suddenly, after several days of high fever and general malaise. The doctors said it was a rare inflammation of the brain that led to cardiac arrest. They were unable to resuscitate her.
In the coffin, the girl looked like she was sleeping: her face was calm, her hands folded on her chest. The mother stood over her daughter, unable to hold back her tears. Despair broke out in a scream that pierced the hall, tearing the hearts of those present.
“Take me with her!” the woman sobbed. “I can’t live without her! Bury me next to her! I don’t want to breathe this air without my girl anymore!”
The father hugged her, trembling with tears. Relatives approached one by one, consoled her, wiped her eyes. It seemed that the grief was so strong that reality itself was about to crack under its weight.

While some stood in shock, not believing their eyes, others were already calling an ambulance. The doctors were almost knocked off their feet when they arrived. Check – there is a pulse. The pressure is weak, but stable. The girl was immediately taken to intensive care.
A day later, the diagnosis came: lethargic sleep. A rare condition in which a person looks dead, but their life-support functions continue to work in slow motion.
Essentially, this is a state of deepest hibernation, reminiscent of a coma, but with the chance of waking up.
It turned out later that the doctor who examined the girl was wrong – he did not notice a weak pulse. The body temperature dropped almost to room temperature, breathing was barely perceptible.
